I refuse to entertain their banter though because it makes me forget not all people think that way and I begin to lose hope for humanity. I'd rather keep the smidgeon of hope that I have left.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-300473759380947451.post-34876829319315715522006-08-10T22:28:00.000-07:002006-08-10T22:28:00.000-07:00I have this discreet little sign up in my office t...I have this discreet little sign up in my office that says "What Would Jesus Bomb?". The irony and humor isn't lost on me, but I bet most of the folks in W's adoring fan club wouldn't get it. So my question is....who do we 'nuke' now? England or Pakistan? Maybe ol' JC knows.

Grumpy RussAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-300473759380947451.post-85100157647445545782006-08-11T23:30:00.000-07:002006-08-11T23:30:00.000-07:00I used to show The Day After when I taught a Cold ...I used to show The Day After when I taught a Cold War unit several years ago and it really is chilling. I remember the guy watching the Titan missiles around Omaha (I think) firing and knowing it meant there were Soviet ones incoming, then the holocaust. Even though it was an 80s made for TV movie, with no sophisticated special effects, it was always effective and made the point louder than all the charts and statistics, mainly because it was pictured in our backyard. Although an excerpt from Hiroshima by John Hersey got through to them, too. I find that I really do have to distance myself from all the footage from the Middle East (and elsewhere), since I really wouldn't be able to get out of bed tomorrow morning. Sometimes I hear or read about something just so GOOD and redeeming that it brings tears to my eyes. Like you, I'm just not sure if it balances out. That last paragraph is a masterpiece.
*debbi*Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-300473759380947451.post-31867707287285957822006-08-17T04:29:00.000-07:002006-08-17T04:29:00.000-07:00I showed The Day After to my kids last year.
