THE BANDIT

This is Bandit last December. Maybe ten months old. Notice how her stripes look sort of smoked.

This shot is from last week. Notice how much darker this Siamese mix is now. She likes to perch on the scales in the bathroom and tops out at about fifteen pounds. She still has the calico markings of course but the orange didn't darken along with the black stripes so it doesn't show up as much.

Bless all owners of weird mutt felines!!  My matronly alpha cat (Joan) is all gray -- but one can see the faint stripes in her overly long tail if the light is right.  I don't tell her I see them and she doesn't ask if I see them.  We're cool.

Gorgeous!  After twelve years, I often find myself still admiring my cat's coat in astonishment at the complex colors and shades (she's a cocoa tabby).  We humans' skin colorings are very nice in all their variations, but don't hold a candle to felines.  I wish I could be covered in such beautiful fur.  If humans were furry, I wonder what would become 'beautiful' and 'not beautiful', as we have done with our facial, hair, and body features.
I recently discovered a very amusing trilogy about a wonderful cat that I'd never heard of before and if you haven't either I highly recommend it:  the tales about Norton by Peter Gethers.  He's a Scottish Fold (Norton, that is) and quite remarkable.  I found all three novels in one volume for ten bucks at Barnes and Noble.  A great bathroom reader to dip into one escapade at a time, but I often found myself dragging it out to the armchair, too.  Gethers' style is hilarious.
BTW, for some reason I can no longer read others' comments about your entries.  When I click on that link, I get an error message.  Fortunately, the 'leave a comment' link works fine, but I like to read what everyone else says, too!  Yours is the only journal I'm having trouble with. Any thoughts?
