WHAT THE @#$%^!!!

The president has announced that it would be "best" for Donald Rumsfeld to remain as Secretary of Defense. The impression I get from the quote is that it is best in the personal sense for him to remain in the job he's done so badly. Perhaps I misunderstood. We all know how well the president uses the English language. In any case, I guess I was under the very mistaken impression that appointees to positions at Rumsfeld's level do what's best for the country not for themselves. I do understand that this attitude is so "last century."

I'm sure there are more than a few members of our armed forces who believe that what's best for them is to be out of Iraq and back with their families.

Too bad their isn't a mood entry for extremely cynical.

Jackie,

But doesn't it tell us something about George Bush and this presidency?  We tend to assume that Bush is stupid and just doesn't understand what a mess Iraq is, but I think that's a mistake. I really think Bush understands the situation and sees it all as a good thing; good for his CEO friends, good for haliburton, good for his war on Social Security and other social programs.

They are busy building an embassy the size of the Vatican City in Iraq with its own power, water, and security force. It''s basically going to be a small town on the Tigris.

I think the problem is we assume that President Bush shares our perspective on this--at least in some way as an American. But what sacrifices has Bush had to make? This is all working out for him quite well actually.

And whether or not Rumsfeld is doing a good or exmplary job is moot. The only important matter is Rumsfeld loyal? That's what matters and that's why he's still there.

You know what's really sad?  I am numb to it all the now.  All this corruption and scandal and death has been in the news for years now....and I feel so powerless.  I hope the bastards who voted for him have a very hard time sleeping.

Like Russ, I am getting more numb as this administration drags on and on and on. I feel guilty about that.
